Korean startup Progeneer has signed a non-exclusive licensing agreement worth up to $390 million for its next-generation adjuvant platform, ProLNG. The deal, valued at approximately 585 billion won, was made with a US biotechnology company to apply the technology to four cancer vaccines currently under development.

Financial terms are tied to development and commercialization milestones. Progeneer will receive royalties upon successful product commercialization. The company also expects funds from additional joint research agreements to support its own clinical development pipeline.

The specific contract details remain confidential by mutual agreement. However, the filing notes that negotiations for further joint research are currently underway. This structure includes a sub-option clause allowing the application of ProLNG to additional cancer vaccine products. If these options are exercised, the same financial terms, including milestones and running royalties, will apply.

ProLNG is a TLR7/8-based adjuvant platform independently developed by the Korean startup. It is characterized by its ability to induce a higher T-cell immune response compared to conventional adjuvants while reducing systemic toxicity.

Beyond the specific vaccines covered in the deal, the company is using this platform to build a broader next-generation cancer immunotherapy applicable to various cancer types and therapeutic modalities. The vaccines subject to this agreement are being developed with the goal of entering clinical trials next year.

While the startup focuses on the mechanics of immune activation, the broader implications of this deal touch on a persistent challenge in oncology.
